This paper, written by Spencer Kaplan, Joanne Kim, Hong Pham, and Lan Tang, is one of the two winning proposals from the 2020-2021 U.S.-China Student Challenge, where students from the United States and China were tasked with identifying creative ways to reset the U.S.-China relationship at a turbulent, historic juncture.

Creating and Using Space for Peace

Given the surge of global interest in a new phase of space exploration, this proposal explores how cooperation in the sector represents a promising opportunity for peaceful collaboration on scientific projects that can improve overall bilateral ties. The proposal discusses the feasibility and benefits of working on a joint U.S.-China space initiative to utilize existing satellite technology to research disease prevention, climate change, and other areas of scientific interest.
