In light of the recent novel coronavirus outbreak, Jennifer Bouey discussed the 2002–2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the global response. She subsequently describes U.S.-China collaboration from 2003 to 2012 and developments in the years prior to the current coronavirus outbreak. Lastly, she analyzes the characteristics of 2019-nCoV and China’s early responses, concluding with policy recommendations for addressing the outbreak.
