Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues

The Georgetown University Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues is pleased to accept applications for the fall 2024 U.S.-China Student Dialogue. The application deadline is October 20, 2024.

The fall 2024 program will feature an extended bilateral dialogue among students from Georgetown University and Peking University on “The Future of U.S.-China Relations.” The program will begin with four virtual sessions (three in November 2024 and one in February 2025) and culminate with a dialogue and study tour in Beijing and Shanghai over spring break. .

Over the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, participants will interact over four 90-minute Zoom sessions. The dialogues will feature discussions of the opportunities and challenges facing U.S.-China relations as well as the development of recommendations for cooperative ways forward across six areas: climate change, global health, peace and security, business and trade, people-to-people dialogue and global governance.

The program will culminate in an all-expenses-paid trip to Beijing and Shanghai during spring break (February 28-March 9, 2025) that will feature face-to-face dialogues and the presentation of student recommendations, as well as interactions with local students, scholars, and officials. Site visits will also be part of the program.

Requirements

• All current Georgetown students, both graduate and undergraduate, that are in good academic standing are eligible. 
• Participants must participate in all four Zoom sessions (draft schedule below) and the China trip in spring. 
• Participants will submit two 500-word reflections (one before and one after the Beijing trip), which may be featured on the initiative’s website and publications.

• Dialogue 1: Thursday, November 7, 7:30-9:00 p.m. ET
• Dialogue 2: Thursday, November 14, 7:30-9:00 p.m. ET 
• Dialogue 3: Thursday, November 21, 7:30-9:00 p.m. ET

Spring 2025

• Dialogue 4: Thursday, February 20, 7:30-9:00 p.m. ET

Application Process

Interested students should send a 300-500 word statement of interest, CV, and unofficial transcript to uschinadialogue@georgetown.edu by 5 p.m. on October 20, 2024. Interviews will be arranged with finalists and participants announced by November 1, 2024.
