Spring 2025 U.S.-China Student Dialogue Call for Applications

The Georgetown University Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues is pleased to accept applications for the spring 2025 U.S.-China Student Dialogue. The application deadline is February 23, 2025.

The spring 2025 program will feature an extended bilateral dialogue among students from Georgetown University and Tsinghua University on “The Future of U.S.-China Relations.” The program will begin with four virtual sessions (draft schedule below) and culminate with a dialogue and study tour in Beijing and Hong Kong in May 2025. 

Over the spring 2025 semester, participants will interact over four 90-minute Zoom sessions. The dialogues will feature extended discussions of the opportunities and challenges facing U.S.-China relations. Students will work in groups to develop recommendations for cooperative ways forward across areas including: climate change, global health, peace and security, technology, business and trade, people-to-people dialogue, and global governance. 

The program will culminate in a Georgetown-funded trip to Beijing and Hong Kong from May 19 to 25, 2025 that will feature face-to-face dialogues and presentations of student recommendations, as well as interactions with local students, scholars, experts, and officials. Site visits will also be part of the program.

Requirements

  • All current Georgetown students, both graduate and undergraduate, that are in good academic standing are eligible. 
  • Participants must participate in all four Zoom sessions and the China trip in May. 
  • Participants will submit two 500-word reflections (one before and one after the China trip), which may be featured on the initiative’s website and publications.​

  • Dialogue 1: Wednesday, March 26, 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET 
  • Dialogue 2: Wednesday, April 2, 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET 
  • Dialogue 3: Wednesday, April 9, 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET 
  • Dialogue 4: Wednesday, April 23, 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET​

Application Process

Interested students should send a 500-word statement of interest, CV, and unofficial transcript to uschinadialogue@georgetown.edu by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, February 23. Interviews will be arranged with finalists after spring break. Final participants will be announced by March 20, 2025.
