Professor Philip Ivanhoe

Philip Ivanhoe is a professor and former department chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Georgetown University. He is a distinguished philosopher historian of Chinese thought, particularly Confucianism and Neo-Confucianism, and pioneer in raising broader interest in and awareness of East Asian philosophy among Western audiences. From 2021 to 2024, Ivanhoe co-convened the U.S.-China Research Group on Cosmopolitanism with the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues.

Lizhi Liu is an assistant professor in the McDonough School of Business and a faculty affiliate with the Department of Government at Georgetown University. At Georgetown, she runs the Chinese Politics and Economy Research Seminar Series with Professor Ning Leng and teaches courses on international business and politics in China. This past month, Liu published her first book, From Click to Boom: The Political Economy of E-Commerce in China (Princeton University Press, November 2024). The initiative sat down with Liu to discuss her new book and its contributions to understanding the rise of China’s e-commerce industry and China’s broader political economy.

Joanna Lewis is the Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor of Energy and Environment and director of the Science, Technology and International Affairs Program at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service. Lewis has over two decades of experience working on international climate and clean energy policy with a focus on China. The initiative sat down with faculty committee member Joanna Lewis to reflect on her career and research on China, climate cooperation, and clean energy supply chains.

Evan Medeiros is the Penner Family Chair in Asian Studies and Cling Family Senior Fellow in U.S.-China Relations at the Walsh School of Foreign Service and senior fellow with the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues at Georgetown University. Medeiros joined Georgetown after serving for six years on the staff of the National Security Council (NSC) during the Obama administration. The initiative sat down with Medeiros to reflect on his career at the NSC and current research on U.S.-China relations.

Dennis Wilder (G’79) is a senior fellow and former managing director for the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues at Georgetown University. Wilder joined the initiative in 2016 after a nearly four decades-long career in government service, where he served in various senior positions at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Council (NSC). The initiative sat down with him to reflect on his distinguished career and current work promoting U.S.-China student exchanges at Georgetown.
