In this article for University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, Mark Jia introduces a general concept of “law power”—a nation-state’s ability to use law to affect others to get what it wants—and demonstrates the potential of law power as a lens for analyzing geopolitics.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, the Georgetown University Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues hosted two student dialogues with Chinese universities, one with Peking University and another with Tsinghua University, as part of its U.S.-China Student Dialogue program.
