Li Chenyang

Li Chenyang is a professor in the School of Humanities and served as the founding coordinator and then director of the philosophy program at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. His research interests include Chinese philosophy and comparative philosophy. Li is a participant in the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues Research Group on Cosmopolitanism.

  • Author of The Tao Encounters the West: Explorations in Comparative Philosophy (1999), Confucianism in a Pluralist World (2005 [Chinese edition]), The Confucian Philosophy of Harmony (2014), and over 100 journal articles and book chapters.
  • Served as professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Central Washington University in the United States from 1999 to 2010.
  • Served as the senior visiting fellow at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) (2005 - 2006), ACE Fellow of the American Council on Education (2008 - 2009), and Berggruen Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University (2015 – 2016).
