David Edelstein

David Edelstein is a professor in the Department of Government in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Center for Security Studies in the School of Foreign Service. He is a core faculty member of the Security Studies Program. Edelstein is a participant in the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues Research Group on Managing Strategic Competition.

International activities include:

  • Former fellow at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation; former fellow at Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs; visiting scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
  • Author of Occupational Hazards: Success and Failure in Military Occupation and has published several articles on international security, international relations theory, and U.S. foreign policy
  • Ongoing research about time horizons of political leaders in international politics and exit strategies from military interventions
